Food Equity Programs

We Serve The Whole Human Sustainably

We address nutrition through our equity food boxes and education. Through our holistic programs, we strive to help repair the deeply disruptive harm suffered by communities of color. We help individuals and families to implement practices that improve the ways they live. These healthful changes combat ancestral trauma and directly address the chronic diseases plaguing communities of color, leading to an overall improvement in well-being that will reverberate for generations to come.

Rather than providing one-time relief, or treating only one aspect of a person’s experience, our programs provide long-term, trauma-informed, holistic care.

Mobile Farmers’ Market

The Mobile Farmer’s Market has no geographic boundaries. We serve the neighborhoods with the greatest needs in BIPOC and other underserved communities with our partners from various different organizations. A community of farmers, makers, producers, and healthcare practitioners bring healthy foods and services to our mobile market sites throughout the year.

Pre-boxed meals are available for members who wish to purchase meals and to seniors and disabled members who are unable to attend the market at no charge. Meals are typically lunch or dinner for individuals or families and are prepared with locally grown produce from the Yasuke Commons and our community farming partners. Vegan and vegetarian options are also available.

How it Works

    • 1The program is free to low income and no-income individuals and families who reside in targeted underserved neighborhoods.
    • 2People are enrolled in the program with the help of our program partners. Enrollees can sign in at the market or use their membership card to receive market services.
    • 3Each week, we set up an open farmers’ market under one or more tents at various targeted BIPOC, those who have been impacted by Covid, and low-income neighborhoods throughout the Portland Metro area.
    • 4The mobile market offers fresh organic produce, organic groceries (dairy, alternative milks, eggs, grains, bread) and occasionally samples of healthy foods and vitamins. One of our community chefs prepares a meal or cooking demonstration to teach members how to use weekly food choices from the market.
    • 5Pre-boxed food and home delivery is available to members that are unable to make it to the market (typically seniors and disabled members).
    • 6Add-on services of prepared meals are available for members for an additional fee.

Sustainable Support

Big cities are known to encourage food deserts. Food deserts are areas where access to healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables, are harder to access and less affordable. Our Mission is to bring these resources into BIPOC communities who are impacted the most. We utilize the farm to grow nourishing foods and provide therapeutic support in furtherance of our work to uplift the lives of low- and no-income communities and people of color.

Sustainable Resources

Grain Mill Operating our own grain mill allows us to produce inexpensive grains for consumption, as well as for food production within our commercial kitchen.

Product Partnerships We partner with other like-minded, ethical producers to create unique, sustainable products (e.g., coffee blend, beverages, bread loaves)

Not only will we support the local community through our various programs, but we will contribute to the local economy. The funds we receive through our enterprises do not stop with us. They flow to the many makers, producers and practitioners we partner with. Additionally, a percentage of proceeds go directly into mutual aid work.

Diseases such as diabetics,  hypertension, obesity, and now COVID. Partnering with other health agencies, mobile services are on  site at our local farmer’s market offering blood pressure and diabetic tests.

Mobile Farmer’s Market

The Mobile Farmer’s Market has no geographic boundaries. We go to neighborhoods where there are greater assessed needs in the BIPOC communities. And have created a community of  farmers, makers, producers, and healthcare practitioners who bring healthy foods, products, groceries,  and health services to our mobile market sites.
